In true scout fashion, Young STAR awards badges to the standouts of Wanderland 2015.
Though this year’s festival wasn’t as hyped as its predecessors, many still trooped to Globe Circuit Events Ground last April 25 for Wanderland Music and Arts Festival 2015.
In the spirit of last year’s carnival theme — that saw carousel rides and cotton candy — Karpos Multimedia went the extra step and transformed the venue into a campsite worthy of, well, actual camping. Complete with teepees, arts and crafts tents, and a mess hall, the only thing left was to gather ‘round the makeshift bonfire and sing summer camp songs.
There was no need for individual Kumbaya moments though, since music was readily available with a stellar lineup of international and local acts, including RAC, Kid Cudi, Kate Torralba, Youngblood Hawke, Sinyma and Hale.
In true Wanderscout fashion, we decided to come up with our own badges to award to some of the notable people and moments of the day.
Man Bun/Sunnies Combo Badge
Blokes who tamed their long locks in a manner that would put even Harry Styles to shame.
Lewis Watson, kuya guard stationed at the right side of the stage.
Parental Guidance Badge
The titos and titas of Manila who bought tickets just to accompany their kids (or to make sure their kids didn’t get into too much trouble). And also maybe to enjoy the music.
That parent who confidently strode past the long line at the Topshop/Topman booth, took two bottles of water, and walked back to his wife, who prodded him to get more. All the other parents taking advantage of the freebies at the Globe Wondercamp.
Rainbow Connection Badge
Fans who were especially dedicated to their favorite performers, and performers who made it a point to acknowledge them. Bonfire-worthy singalongs included.
Kate Torralba and the girl who sang along to all of her songs (brownie points for when the songstress herself noticed, and gave the girl a copy of her album, “Long Overdue”), The girl who tripped after Lewis Watson’s set because she ran after him screaming “Lewis Watson, Lewis Watson!”; the crowd when Augustana frontman Dan Layus played the opening chords of Boston, and when Hale sang Blue Skies.
Love Local Badge
Aside from including local acts in its roster of headliners this year, Karpos decided to put the spotlight on local acts with the “Locally” stage. These moments say why.
The (many) Hale fans who rushed to the pit area to witness the band’s comeback, all the people who made an effort to head to the pit area of the “Locally” stage to watch BP Valenzuela and CRWN’s sets.
Passionate Poseur Badge
These people know how to own not knowing the lyrics.
All the people mouthing “I don’t know this song” (yup, we saw you), but who still kept dancing to said song.
