There’s no denying that Skins was one of the TV series that helped define our generation. It was liberating to watch since they tackled topics such as sex and homosexuality in a no holds barred manner. They swore as if it were their first language, and man was it refreshing. Skins opened our eyes to life beyond what was thought to be normal. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the show, here are our ten most unforgettable moments from the series.
Generation 1: Season 2, Episode 3
What happened: Sid breaks down at a Crystal Castles gig
How we felt: ?❤️?
In this episode, Sid’s relationship with his family, Tony, and Cassie are all faltering. Everything unravels gradually with Alice Glass playing in the background. No words were uttered because none were needed, but the feelings were intense.
Generation 1: Season 2, Episode 9
What happened: Cassie confesses her love to Sid, Chris forgets Jal’s name, and Cassie flies to New York
How we felt: ????????
Cassie’s character is an easy favorite in the series. She’s eccentric, lovable, and has her own way of doing things. Here, we see the best and worst of her. She confesses her feelings to Sid (yay!) and cares for Chris despite how difficult he can get. But just like any Skins episode (the producers love throwing curveballs) something immensely heartbreaking happens at the end.
Generation 1: Season 1, Episode 9
What happened: Maxxie comes out to Anwar’s dad
How we felt: ??❤️?????
Despite all the drama and romance that ensues, Maxxie coming out is the most unforgettable scene in this episode. He comes out to Anwar’s father during Anwar’s birthday celebration. And honestly, we can learn a thing or two from what he said: “It’s a stupid messed up world. I’ve got my God; he speaks to me everyday. Some things I can’t work out so I leave them be even if I think they’re wrong because I know one day you’ll make me understand. I’ve got that trust; it’s called belief.” #cri
Generation 1: Season 1, Episode 9
What happened: Wild World montage
How we felt: ?❤️
To close the first season, Tony, Effy, Sid, Cassie, Michelle, Anwar, Jal, Maxxie, and Chris were filmed lipsynching to Cat Stevens’ Wild World. The song perfectly describes the situations they were in at that point. It was the perfect cliffhanger.
Generation 2: Season 4, Episode 8
What happened: Cook’s outburst
How we felt: ????❤️?
Cook, despite his flaws, is extremely loyal to his friends. He would do anything for his mates, no matter how crazy things might be. He made us understand how far he would go for someone he cares about by avenging Freddie. Him screaming “I am Cooooooook!” left us #shookt.
Generation 1: Season 2, Episode 10
What happened: Chris’ funeral
How we felt: ?????????????
Remember in Game of Thrones when Ned Stark died? Yeah, we felt the same betrayal with Chris’ death in Skins. After two seasons of falling in love and rooting for Chris, it was painful to see him pass away. This episode focused on honouring him the way he’d want to be remembered.
Generation1: Season 1, Episode 7
What happened: Maxxie tells the whole class that he hooked up with Tony
How we felt: ??? ?
After a class trip to Russia, Maxxie reveals his hook up with Tony to the entire class. This may be way too much information for the class to handle, but it was really funny. “I’m not a slut, okay?” is now a famous disclaimer when we do something NSFW.
Generation 2: Season 3, Episode 4
What happened: Pandora’s birthday
How we felt: ???????❤️???
Pandora, Effy’s sweet and innocent best friend, throws a birthday party that doesn’t go quite as smoothly as planned. As the night progresses she gets in an argument with Effy, hooks up with Cook and… well, continues to annoy us. As all of this transpires, something better is brewing in the background between Naomi and Emily. Seriously, that stare will make you understand. #TeamNaomily
“Katie and Emily”
Generation 2: Season 3, Episode 9
What happened: Naomi comes out at the dance
How we felt: ❤️❤️❤️???
Oh, young love and its complexities. All the talk and drama about relationships, cheating, jealousy, and sexuality are discussed in this episode. But after all that only one thing matters: acceptance. In the end #lovewins, Naomi and Emily prove that.
Generation 2: Season 4, Episode 4
What happened: I’M KATIE F*CKING FITCH
How we felt: ?????
After getting into an “accident” in the woods (long story), Katie Fitch comes back fierce and even more confident than ever. When a pair of girls pretty much bullied her into getting them a smoke, she strikes back with a classic trip and an epic line: I’M. KATIE. F*CKING. FITCH. Now that’s a mic drop.
