YS Open Call FAQs

Day one of the second YS Open Call is happening tomorrow. Make sure you have your CV, portfolio and other pasabog already in place before heading to Cup Fiction in White Plains, Quezon City.

Still have a few Qs? Check the list below and you might just find what you’re looking for.

Come sit with us: We’re looking for writers, photographers, illustrators, and multimedia artists.

Is there an age limit?

As long as you can read, write, take photos, illustrate or whatever it is that you think you’re good at, you’re free to apply as a contributor.

Are you open to accepting summer interns?

Yes. You can simply email us at hey@youngstar.ph with the subject “Summer Internship.” The Open Call is for contributors and full-time applicants.

What to bring?

Your CV, portfolio, and some Young STAR and pop culture knowledge. Bonus points if you bring a picture of your dog with you. (Kidding.)

Should we bring a digital or printed portfolio?

Either is acceptable, but we have to be honest: We also look at presentation. So if you bring a booklet of your best photos, or a mini graphic novel featuring your work, you get extra brownie points.

What about those outside Manila?

Our email is always open to regional correspondents. Just send your CV, portfolio and cover letter to hey@youngstar.ph. Don’t forget to indicate the position you want to apply for in the subject head.

Are you open to accepting freelance makeup artists and stylists?

Of course. No need to bring a model to show your makeup and styling skills with; your portfolio would be good enough. But please, no Instagram OOTD portfolios.

What can we expect on the day?

We’re interviewing people on a first-come, first-served basis. If you need to go to another event or catch a flight, it’s best to come early. We’ll be reviewing your portfolio and interviewing you one by one, so come prepared with entertainment (i.e. a phone to review Young STAR on).
