You’d have to make some pretty big moves if you’re interested in nourishing local culture and entertainment — this is extra true in terms of cinema. It’s not enough to just hold a campaign or a class. How about a cross between a workshop and a competition? A masterclass with an established filmmaker? How about you throw some prizes in there too?
Leave it to Power Mac Center (PMC) to make it all happen. PMC’s Pixelworx: Cinemansanas is an art campaign dedicated to discovering the potential of aspiring filmmakers, and celebrating the art of digital storytelling.
The competition aspect of Cinemansanas is called “Do You Have A Minute?” a contest on who can make the best 60-seconds-or-less short film using an Apple device. The sensible creative knows it takes a mix of good technology and actual skill to make something beautiful, and the competition aims to find who takes that philosophy to heart. Whoever comes out on top stands to win P100,000 worth in Apple prizes.
If you’re not up for the competition and need to flex some film muscles, you can apply for a masterclass with Cannes Film Festival Best Director Brillante Mendoza (yes, you read that right, but here’s his name again: Brillante Mendoza), which covers everything, from acting, to directing and cinematography. These sessions though will be limited exclusively to 23 aspiring filmmakers, so y’all gotta sign up real quick. To cap off the experience, Apple Certified Trainers will conduct sessions on how to use programs such as Final Cut Pro X and Logic Pro X on certain dates and selected branches. Talk about service.
If you don’t have any plans to shake up the film industry but still join in on the fun, you can do that too. For as long as the campaign goes on, you can just head to Power Mac Center for in-store games and activities to win some prizes.
The whole campaign takes place in different branches (like, all over the place, from Power Plant Mall to Trinoma, SM City Fairview to Glorietta, with each aspect of it happening on various dates, but the whole of Cinemansanas is ongoing, and will keep going until September 30. If the attention being generated by this year’s Cinemalaya and MMFF is any evidence, now is an important time for Philippine cinema. Cinemalaya might just be your chance to be part of the zeitgeist.
