Chances are, you’ve seen The Lion King as an animated feature at least twice in your life. The songs are great, the dialogue is sharp, and the storytelling is pretty darn good. If you loved the Disney film as much as we do, then you’ll definitely want to see the musical production at The Theatre at Solaire starting March 18, 2018.
The Lion King is celebrating its 20th year and it has been performed in eight different languages already. The Manila leg of the international tour boasts of a diverse cast, bringing in performers from London’s West End production, New Zealand and South Africa. And what would a classic musical be without Filipino talent? Actors Julien Joshua Dolor, Pablo Palacpac and Juan Gabriel Tiongson will share the role of Young Simba, while Sheena Bentoy, Uma Martin and Felicity Napuli will play Young Nala.
There are so many things to prepare ourselves for, starting with the visual treat via the props, costumes, choreography and lights. We’ll also need to prepare ourselves emotionally for the Broadway score. It features award-winning songs from the film and new music to highlight the distinctive sound and rhythm of Africa, after all. But securing a ticket should be the least of our worries. From Oct. 25- Nov. 2, Globe platinum, Globe postpaid costumers, and Visa credit, debit, and prepaid cardholders get early dibs on the seats and enjoy a 10 percent discount. But either way, tickets go on sale for everyone starting Nov. 3 — that’s four months ahead of the premier and one month before Christmas. Go ahead girl, treat yourself. You deserve it.
