The Lion King is coming to Manila

Most have already seen The Lion King as a Disney film. But if you haven’t seen The Lion King in the form of a musical, complete with stunning costumes, wild choreography, and the kind of spectacle you can only find in theater, you’re seriously missing out.

The critically acclaimed musical is set to premier in Manila, March 2018. The show, which is also set to land in Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, and South Africa, is being launched in celebration of two anniversaries: its 20th year on stage and its 25th year as a global production. Having debuted on Broadway in November 1997, its longevity is a clear indication of how awesome this show has proven itself to be over the years. What also makes this show special is that audiences in these countries will be able to see performances by a new South African cast.

This international tour is being made possible thanks to live entertainment company Michael Cassel Group and Disney Theatrical Productions. The show’s director Julie Taymor (fun fact: she also did Across the Universe!) is especially excited that the show will be reaching new audiences. “Asia is a big part of my life, having spent four years in Indonesia and travelled throughout many countries in the region,” she says. “It is thrilling to bring this production back to a part of the world that has been a major inspiration in my life.”

March 2018 might seem like a long ways off, but you should lock that month down and snag those tickets as soon as possible. Tickets for the premier are set to go on-sale come October 2017. We just can’t wait.

Further announcements regarding venue and dates will be made over the coming months. For more information on booking tickets and joining the waitlist, go to For more information worldwide, visit
