The Red Bull 3Style National Championships was a DJ battle royale

The air was buzzing with electricity one Thursday evening at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. In the Valkyrie nightclub, the Red Bull 3Style National Championships was about to take place. There, a group of budding, plucky DJ’s would battle it out for the chance to represent the Philippines at the 3Style Global Finals in Krakow, Poland.

We’ve tackled the rules of the championship before, but we’ll recount them. In the span of 15 minutes, each competing DJ had to play a set with three genres of music in it. You can imagine, the goal was met with varying degrees of success. Some flowed seamlessly from track to track, effortlessly incorporating high octane scratchwork into their sets. Others were clumsy even when they tried to keep steady. Nevertheless the crowd at Valkyrie wasn’t the type to let dead air take over, and cheered for every DJ to come up on stage.

It was Charles Angeles Jr., a.k.a. (iNBiTuiN) who was crowned the winner of the championships, overcoming the competition with a mix of rock, hip-hop and mumbo, and will be the one to advance to the global finals in Poland. “I just enjoyed my set. I wanted to pass my energy to the crowd, and I think I was successful in doing so,” iNBiTuiN says, and that energy could certainly be felt. Here’s hoping Poland recognizes iNBiTuiN for what he brings to the table — er, DJ booth. Or at least, Krakow gets as wild a party as Valkyrie did.
