New Balance and Stance’s collab shows love for both the West and East Coast

Solid” is the word to describe New Balance. It’s a reliable shoe brand free of fancy tricks or gimmicks, known for is comfortable fit and sensible designs. But every now and then, it shakes things up a little, expanding its form and function comfort zone to do cooler things.

That’s easy to say with “First Of All,” a collaboration between New Balance and sock brand Stance. We have Sneakpeek, a lifestyle store worth any sneakerhead’s time, to thank for bringing this collaboration to our attention.

The two models to come out of this collaboration, the New Balance x Stance 1978 and New Balance x Stance 997, draw their inspiration from interesting sources. The 1978 is influenced by Stance’s headquarters in San Clemente, California, which explains its slate blue and tan color palette and its easygoing West Coast beach feel. The 997 on the other hand aims to emulate the look of Boston’s brownstone architecture — a great choice of shoe if you dig copper rose. And because this is a collab after all, you’ve also got some nice pairs of socks with shades complementary to the 1978 and 997.

Sometimes new creative projects don’t have to be radical, and the “First Of All” collab proves this, showing how solid each brand is. New Balance and Stance know how to keep it steady.
