It’s every artist’s dream come true to be recognized by their creative idols, and Bulacan-based illustrator Keeshia Felipe knows that feeling all too well.
As a local artist who earned quite a following for her kawaii illustrations of cool girls in trendy clothes, Keeshia (known to her followers as Kita, or Keeshuu) shares that everything kind of just began as a hobby. She began drawing her signature cool girls because of her fascination for women who can dress well. “(It’s) kind of a frustration as I don’t have the courage to wear fancy clothes, so I just draw them on girls,” says Keeshia, who is also a regular at the Cubao Expo zine scene as a member of Local Loca.
That fascination, as it turns out, paid off. Gemma Shiel, founder of London-based fashion label Lazy Oaf, saw Keeshia’s illustrations of girls wearing her brand’s clothes on Instagram, and got in touch with her about a possible collaboration soon after. Keeshia shares that Gemma gave her several mood boards to start with, but other than that, they gave her enough freedom to do what she wanted with the collection but with the added Lazy Oaf flavor.
