I don’t know who started the trend of playing holiday music on the 1st of September, but I’m not complaining. Just seeing Jose Mari Chan on my timeline is enough for me to feel Christmas in my heart. That also means that it’s about time we save up for presents we plan on giving at the many parties we’ll be attending in December.

But if you’re itching to just give right now and if you have extra baon to spare, why not donate some of your hard-earned (okay, well, earned through good grades and the goodness of yours parents’ hearts) money to organizations who need it? Here are three we’re looking at right now:
Teach Peace Build Peace
It only takes about 10 minutes online to feel that the world is in utter chaos. Organizations like Teach Peace Build Peace create educational programs to reach remote areas and spread the spirit of peace. They aim to teach children of different religious backgrounds and ethno-linguistic groups to help cultivate a culture of peace. If you don’t have extra hours between classes to volunteer (still highly encouraged though), Teach Peace Build Peace also accepts donations to support their operations.
Check out their website if you’re interested.

Rise Against Hunger
Formerly known as Stop Hunger Now, Rise Against Hunger was first invited to organize meal-packing events in the country back in 2011. Their presence was solidified when Typhoon Yolanda hit the country in 2013 and they provided immediate aid to those affected by the calamity. In 2017 alone, Rise Against Hunger’s global operations gathered 398,000 volunteers who worked together to feed 1.4 million people. You can be part of achieving their mission to end world hunger by donating cash or volunteering.

Philippine Animal Welfare Shelter
While you can visit the pups and cats in the shelter for some quality time, you can extend help by donating cash through their website to help feed and cure pets, increasing their chances in finding a forever home. If you have a little more wiggle room with your allowance, you can even sign up to be a supporting member. Monthly donations from P300 to P1000 will help sustain the faculty and pay for the shelter’s utilities.
