Songs to listen to on the way to Karpos Live 2.1
I first heard about Vancouver Sleep Clinic last year from YouTuber Claire Marshall’s Instagram account. I was on the hunt for new songs to put in a birthday playlist (as to who it was for, err, let’s leave the past in the past) and thought that Wildfire was a good opener. The lyrics go: “Saying ‘every love I’ve found is leaving me the same.‘” I thought — damn. That’s a good subtweet. Let me put that in there.
While that playlist has long been forgotten, my appreciation for the band continues to grow. There’s something about the haunting yet upbeat sound that reverberates from my earphones to my inner being that tells me that yep, times can be shitty, but that’s no reason for us to not appreciate all the other good things happening.
When I heard the news that Vancouver Sleep Clinic and musician Tom Misch are set to play at Ayala Malls Vertis North on Aug. 23 for Karpos Live 2.1, I was pumped. It’s that feeling that I initially got from hearing their music on Instagram… personified. And seeing how much people enjoyed the previous Karpos Live with Anderson .Paak (and his apparent BDE), I’m looking forward to spending Thursday night in a sea of other fans.
To help you prepare for Thursday, here’s an eight-track mix to play on the road. Put that crossfade on five seconds for smooth transition, and put your trust in the shuffle button. See you there.
